If I could create a change in my country, What would it be?

There are a lot of things that should be changed about the Philippines. There should be love, fairness and justice. There should be education, housing, healthcare for all. There should be better treatment of poor people. There should be more openness towards ideas that conflict our own. We should end global warming, crime, war, racism, terrorism, corruption, pollution, poverty, climate change and more. Those are all things that many people would change about the Philippines, but I want everyone to think bigger. Why are there so many problems in our country today? One word: avaricious person.

The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hate bribes will live.

PROVERBS 15:27

If I could change one thing about my country, I would eradicate human greed. Greediness inside of human’s heart is the core of our country’s biggest problems. Greed is like a newborn seed that grows into a poisonous vine, in the long run dominating the human soul like an contagious disease, spreading to every corner of society. Eventually, dimming us from the light of truth.

We refused to see the consequence of pollution. Our greed blinded us from this reality. Global warming exists because of our greed. We were greedy and desire more things so we built more factories. We saw coal as the cheapeast and effective source of energy, therefore our factories started using coal which generate pollution. Pollution in turn causes global warming. The same goes for crime, war, and terrorism. Leaders of our country are greedy and desire more for their own, from that greed arises crime, war and terrorism. Instead of being greedy, we should spread love and be more kind and caring towards our fellow countrymen. Wait, but isn’t it human nature to be greedy? Yes. We are all greedy and that is a portion of us human that might not at all can’t transform but the conflict is that in our perspective, being greedy is normal and good when in fact, greed is anything but good.

Mahatma Gandhi’s famous quote expresses that there are sufficient resources to meet human needs, but not sufficient enough to meet human greed, was never more true. Throughout the world, in their pursuit for money, political leaders have wrecked up the financial system, ruin the value of money, which is the foundation of a capitalist society, and produce countless conflicts which have displaced millions and generate hatred. Some things must change.

Greed is at the mean of most of our country’s biggest problems like global warming, corruption, injustice and poverty. That is why I urge all of you this very day to reconsider your perception of greed. Greed is not a good thing. You know what is? Being kind, loving and caring about others. When you extend kindness, people tend to want to be in a relationship with you. Relationships are like your comfort food, when you feel sad they give light to your heavy heart. We all should love our neighbor other than ourselves for in the book of Mathew, Lord said, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. So, let us all create more relationships with others, lets make someone else’s day better instead of focusing on ourselves.
